Abstract

Waste is a byproduct generated from various processes, such as industrial, household, agricultural, and other activities. Sorghum stalk waste is an agricultural residue that contains high cellulose content, making it a valuable resource for further utilization. This study aims to determine the optimal type and concentration of acid to produce the highest glucose yield from the hydrolysis of sorghum stalk waste. The types of acids used in this research include H3PO4; H2SO4; HNO3; CH2O2; CH3COOH, with acid concentrations of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50%. The study was conducted using the acid hydrolysis method, and optimization was performed using Design Expert 13 software. The quantitative data were analyzed using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) to predict the most optimal results. The findings indicate that stronger acid types and higher acid concentrations yield higher glucose levels. The conclusion of this study reveals that using H2SO4 at a 40% concentration produces the highest glucose yield of 39,5%.
