Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-Assisted Technologies Policy

Jurnal Serambi Engineering (JSE) recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies (including large language models, machine learning algorithms, and automated data processing tools) are increasingly utilized in research and manuscript preparation. The journal permits the responsible, transparent, and ethical use of such technologies under meaningful human oversight.

Authors remain fully accountable for the originality, scientific accuracy, technical integrity, and validity of their manuscripts, regardless of whether AI or AI-assisted technologies were employed during research or manuscript preparation.

Permitted Uses of AI

AI-assisted technologies may be used to support legitimate research and technical writing activities, such as:

  • Language polishing, grammar correction, and improving readability;
  • Assisting with code optimization, scripting, or computational modeling (with full methodology disclosed);
  • Translating or organizing initial literature summaries;
  • Data visualization and preliminary formatting.

The use of AI does not alleviate the authors' legal and ethical responsibility to independently verify all calculations, citations, experimental results, and scholarly interpretations.

AI Cannot Be Listed as an Author

Authorship Accountability Requirement: Generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot) cannot be listed as an author or co-author. Authorship requires full legal accountability, intellectual responsibility, and the capacity to approve the final publication version—responsibilities that strictly belong to human researchers.

Mandatory Disclosure of AI Use

Authors who utilized generative AI or AI-assisted tools during manuscript preparation must provide an explicit AI Disclosure Statement before the References section, detailing:

  • The name and version of the AI software/model used;
  • The specific purpose of its application (e.g., grammatical proofreading, code assistance);
  • Confirmation that human authors rigorously reviewed and approved the entire content.
Prohibition of AI Data Fabrication: AI tools must never be used to fabricate experimental data, create fake citations, or manipulate engineering measurements. Any detected fabrication will be treated as severe scientific misconduct.
