Abstract

Slum problems in coastal areas such as Medan Belawan Sub-district, Medan City, require accurate spatial data to support effective intervention planning. The absence of detailed base maps is often a major obstacle. This research aims to produce high accuracy slum maps using the integration of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology and Object Based Image Analysis (OBIA) method. Aerial photography data was acquired using a UAV over a study area of 62.60 Ha, producing an orthomosaic with a spatial resolution of 2.90 cm/pixel. This data was then analyzed using OBIA with classification parameters including object height, shape, texture, and spatial association to identify three main classes: Slum, Non-Slum, and Non-Settlement. This study proves that the integration of UAV and OBIA is a highly effective and reliable method for accurately mapping slums in complex coastal environments, providing a solid basis for local governments in their zoning programs.
