Analisis Dampak Pembangunan Jaringan Jalan Terhadap Lahan Pertanian Menjadi Perumahan di Kabupaten Sidenreng Rappang

Road network development plays a crucial role in enhancing connectivity and stimulating economic growth. However, it frequently contributes to the conversion of agricultural land into non-agricultural uses, such as residential areas and infrastructure, thereby posing significant risks to food security and environmental sustainability. This study aims to examine the extent to which road network expansion has contributed to the reduction of agricultural land in Sidenreng Rappang Regency. Employing a quantitative research approach, data were obtained through field surveys, interviews with relevant stakeholders, and secondary sources from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and associated institutions. Analyses of population growth and land-use change were conducted to assess the decrease in agricultural land area. Findings indicate that the total area of rice fields in Sidenreng Rappang Regency declined by 0.13% in 2023, from 38,989.58 hectares to 38,937 hectares, largely due to the development of public housing projects covering 51.271 hectares. Contrary to common assumptions, population growth was not the main driver which increased by 18.8% between 2018 and 2022—but rather the construction of road networks spanning 83,788.50 m². These developments have led to adverse consequences, including land degradation, environmental deterioration, and heightened threats to food security. The study underscores the importance of balanced infrastructure planning that fosters development while preserving agricultural land, and recommends strengthening regulatory frameworks, leveraging geospatial technologies, and engaging local communities in the planning process.
