Abstract

Measuring materials is a crucial component of open-pit mining operations. However, in practice, discrepancies are often found between terrestrial survey measurements and theoretical in-situ models. These discrepancies may cause production data misalignment and potentially result in technical and financial losses. This study compares two methods for calculating mine volume: terrestrial surveying, conducted directly with instruments such as total stations, which ensures high accuracy under actual conditions though it requires more time and effort; and the in-situ base model, developed from initial data such as LIDAR and drilling, which is efficient for long-term estimations but sensitive to errors in assumptions or geological data.A paired samples test comparing total terrestrial survey volume with the in-situ model showed an average difference of -3.160 BCM, meaning terrestrial results were slightly lower. A significance value of 0.322, higher than 0.05, indicates the difference is not statistically significant. Monthly distribution revealed an anomaly in September, where coal volume differences were notable. Actual measurements showed discontinuous coal, whereas the model depicted continuous coal. This suggests errors in LIDAR-based modeling, likely due to elevation or coordinate mismatches.
