Abstract

Used oil waste is one of the most common types of hazardous and toxic waste (B3) generated by motorcycle repair shops. If not properly managed, this waste can contaminate soil, water, and air, and pose health risks to humans. Business owners' knowledge of used oil waste management can influence their ability to implement proper waste management practices. This study aims to determine the knowledge of motorcycle repair shop owners regarding used oil waste management and to what extent they have implemented waste management practices as an effort to control environmental pollution in Kendari City. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, and analyzed using triangulation techniques. The results show that the implementation of used oil waste management has not been optimal and does not fully comply with existing regulations. Although business owners are aware of the environmental impact of used oil waste, they still lack understanding of proper management procedures. Facilities and infrastructure are inadequate, training is limited, there is no specific budget, and supporting documents are unavailable. Generally, small-scale repair shops only collect the used oil before selling it to third parties, who use it as a mixture for asphalt or fuel.
