Kemampuan Koagulan Lidah Buaya (Aloe vera) dan Tawas dalam pengukuran BOD, COD, TSS, pH dan Amoniak pada Limbah Cair Tempe

Tempeh liquid waste has characteristics such as an unpleasant odor, cloudy color and has a high content of suspended and dissolved organic substances. Improper waste handling can cause environmental pollution. This study aims to determine the ability of aloe vera and alum coagulants ( in the measurement of BOD, COD, TSS, PH and Ammonia in tempeh liquid waste based on the quality standards in the Ministry of Environment Regulation No. 5 of 2014 and the efficiency of reduction. In this study, the method used is experimental research with a coagulation process. Aloe vera as a biocoagulant and alum as a chemical coagulant. The addition of aloe vera and alum coagulant as much as 60 ml/L to tempeh wastewater caused a decrease in pH of 3.84 (51.52%), and an increase in BOD of 92.06 mg/L (32.36%), COD of 326.42 mg/L (5.51%), TSS of 298.50 mg/L (82.01%) and Ammonia of 9.93 mg/L (56.60%) after the addition of aloe vera. In the addition of alum, there was a decrease in pH of 3.79 (52.09%), COD of 206.71 mg/L (33.19%), and an increase in BOD of 83.88 mg/L (20.60%), TSS of 330.75 mg/L (101.68%), and Ammonia of 7.90 mg/L (24.64%). This shows that aloe vera and alum are able to lower the pH. Meanwhile, alum is also effective in reducing COD according to the set quality standards. However, the final pH is below the quality standard so that the waste becomes acidic.
